Pool Deck Stain Removal 101: Types of Stains and How to Remove Them
Having an outdoor swimming pool area is quite an investment. It is surely one that should be kept in pristine condition at all times.
Unfortunately, concrete pool decks can be spoiled by dirt and stains. This can ruin the look of the overall pool area if not dealt with properly. It can be difficult to remove stains without the risk of leaving unwanted marks on your pool deck but it isn’t impossible.
Here are the different ways you can remove specific pool deck stains:
Food Grease and Condiment Stains
These types of stains can be dealt with using some liquid detergent. Let the liquid detergent sit on the stain for about 20 to 30 minutes. Lightly scrub the affected area with a nylon brush. Rinse the area off with some hot water.

Stains from Asphalt
To effectively remove asphalt stains, use ice to freeze the affected area. Scrape off the frozen asphalt stain and scrub it with baking soda. Hose down the area

Efflorescence
These white and sometimes feathered chalk-like stains usually clear out on its own over time. However, it’s appearance can distract from the beauty of your pool deck.
Use muriatic acid or a cleaner specially made for efflorescence. Muriatic acid should be used with caution and diluted in a bit of water.

Grease and Oil Stains
Use a paper towel to blot off the excess oil and grease on the concrete deck. Use a mixture of dishwashing liquid and warm water to scrub off the stain.
Lightly scrub with a nylon bristle scrubbing brush. Rinse off thoroughly with clean water.

Paint
Paint must be dealt with immediately once it comes in contact with the concrete deck. It can be quite difficult to remove paint once it has dried. Avoid wiping the paint as this spread out the stain and force it into the concrete.
Soak the area with a mix of hot water and detergent. Once the paint starts to loosen up, scrub it off with a nylon brush. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Make sure to test out cleaning solutions on a discreet area of the pool to see how your concrete pool deck will react to it. Once you are sure that it will not damage the look of your pool deck, you can proceed to use it on the stain.
